Baby Saved At Homeless Shelter Still Critical

A baby who was resuscitated by workers at the Lexington Salvation Army continues to fight for her life.

The infant ,who has not been identified, was living at the Salvation Army's, W. Arnold Hanger Lodge with her parents.

On Monday afternoon, workers say the baby's father brought her to workers at the Salvation Army, barely breathing.

"He came running into the lobby of the shelter, screaming, "My baby isn't breathing," said Major Debra Ashcraft with the Salvation Army.

Major Ashcraft says her staff immediately went into action by calling 911 and two staff members performed infant CPR.

The baby girl was then rushed to UK hospital where she remains in critical condition.

"We are just hoping for the best and we are praying this precious baby will pull through," Major Ashcraft said.

Police say they don't know why the baby stopped breathing in the first place, but it's being investigated by their Crimes Against Children unit.

But at police say they have no reason to believe this was a criminal act toward the baby.

Major Ashcraft with the Salvation Army says this is the first time they have ever had to use CPR on an infant.

it's probably being investigated because it's an infant and the social workers are looking to get another adoption under their belt.

Why investigate this as a crime? There must be details not given in this story...so far just sounds like a miracle has occurred that saved the life of an infant in distress. If this had happened in the home of a wealthy family, would it still be investigated as a crime? Just being in a homeless shelter doesn't make it a crime...please give the rest of the details!
