Teenage Student Killed In Crash

Grief counselors are on hand at Harrison County High school after the death of a student in a crash.

Investigators say 17-year-old Kayla Poteet died in a crash last night. She was a junior at the school.

Police say she and three other students were on Kentucky 36 when the driver, Phillip Sexton, lost control and hit a tree. Kayla died in the wreck.

Her sister, Brandi, was taken to UK Hospital. Sexton and Sierra Courtney were taken to Harrison Memorial. They are listed in fair condition.

Police believe a wet and slick road played a role in the crash.

At the high school, 300 students set up a special memorial in the library for Kayla Monday night. They remember the soccer player as outspoken and well liked by everyone.

Today was a sad day at HCHS. It seems so unfair and unreal that tragedy has struck for the second year in a row. Kayla will live forever in our hearts and memories. My thoughts and prayers go out to Brandi who has a long road to recovery in front of her. I hope that somehow we can help ease her pain. (B. Rae, we're here whether you need us or not!)I give the families of all of those affected my deepest sympathies.
