Man Headed Back To Mental Institution

A man accused of killing his wife and a Lexington firefighter will go back to a mental institution.

Patrick Hutchinson has agreed to continue his treatment.

He was declared mentally ill and murder charges against him were dropped in 2004.

Police say Hutchinson shot his wife, and then killed firefighter Brenda Cowan after she responded to the scene.

If Hutchinson is ever found to be competent, his murder charges will be reinstated and he would have to stand trial.

His wife had a name as well. Along with 2 daughters. Doesn't she deserve recognition as a person, as his victim as much as Ms. Cowan does? She was just as innocent. And is just as gone. Shameful to see the news ignoring one victim, and acknowledging another in situations like this. As for him being crazy, who wouldn't play crazy to get to rest easier in a psych ward, compared to a prison. Besides that, doesn't the state have prisons just for those who are mentally off?
