The Guzman Family of Powell County is concerned for their safety after someone fired shots outside of their home on Thursday evening.

Raul and Kristina Guzman say they weren't home when the shooting occurred but a neighbor told them that someone in the neighborhood drove erratically along the road that borders their property and fired off two magazines from a small caliber gun. They found one shell casing along the edge of their property from a .38 caliber gun.

The couple believes the shooter had racially motivated intentions when he fired near their home. Raul Guzman is from Mexico and Kristina is Caucasian. They believe the shooter dislikes having someone of Hispanic descent living in the neighborhood.

The Guzman's say they love their home and their neighborhood. They say they hope the shooter understands that the consequences of his actions could have been a lot worse and they hope he serves time for what he did.

The Powell County Sheriff's Office says they are investigating the incident.

In response to Darlene, formerly Powell. Are you serious? ARE YOU SERIOUS? You know these people. Did this patriot with the "guts" to "take action" also have the "guts" to stand up like a man and admit to what he had done and suffer the consequences when the police asked him? I thought so, as usual. So I guess you should say that rednecks have the "guts" to hide their actions and lie for what they believe in rather than sit around and whine... I would also be interested to know how you have tried to use the legal system and it has failed you. You usually have to hide from the legal system don't you? Hey Darlene, what is today?

Who cares why it was done? Someone shot at there house, did the shooter know they weren't home, did the shooter know if there were kids in the house. That's what matters. I don't care what the race. They are here, where it is suppose to be the land of plenty and freedom. Is he legal? Doesn't matter, there are alot of illeagal aliens here, they have been forever. As far as trash coming from Powell County or trash getting run out of other counties to come here, well, I came from another county and I am certainly not trash. I work everyday and so does my husband and all of our family. There is trash everywhere, I don't care where you come from. No one town is trash free, some are just smaller towns and that is all that you read about are the bad things. Always some holier than though getting on here talking about someone else being trash. If the victims are who I think they are, they are very nice people, who have a beautiful little boy. Think about that.

Why does everyone say it is racism? It does not matter what color you are, we are all equal..God made us all, an when I look at someone I don't see color, I see another person like me... The only thing I don't agree with is that how can all the mexicans an hispanic come over here an get all the foodstamps they want, an money to start their on bussness? That is what I don't understand, an like with this shooting, just because they are a interacial couple dosen't mean that is racism, so everyone needs to stop this racism thing!!!!!!!!!

When will the racism stop. I mean come on.You know there are black and white drug addicts, black and white thieves, black and white rapist, then there are the innocent black and whites. So shouldn't we be more concerned about getting these thieves rapist and drug addicts/dealers off the streets instead of sitting around having self pity on ourselves trying to use the term its because I'm black or or because that one was white, or Mexican or whatever the race may in the situation.Another thing why should someone get mad because they are not referred to as African American.Yeah the Ancestors may originated from Africa but this is 2008 and if you and your parents were born and raised in America then you are American! You dont hear Mexicans called Mexican Americans, or Taliban Americans. I think everyone should grow up! Let the past be the past!Live for today and the future. Get over yourselves and color and the color of everyone else and take care of the real problems that have taken over.

to the smart person not from powell co. you obviously aren't too smart from all the typos and wording errors in your comment. I am a REDNECK and PROUD OF IT. If the legal system doesn't work for us then at least we have the guts to take action not sit around and whine about what's not right.

First of all they werent home at the time of the shooting? How could they be targets? Has this person threaten them before? Something doesn't compute here and who cares if they are an interacial couple, just because you are doesn't make you a target. Before pointing fingers of racism you need to get your facts straight!

Hmmm.......shots were not fired at the house according to the story. Could it be that the shooter was firing warnings to the neighbors? Not enough info here to tell anything.
