Community Mourns Loss Of Sisters Killed In Fire

Kentucky State Police say two children are dead after an early morning house fire in eastern Kentucky.

Trooper Joe Veeneman says the children were found Wednesday in the basement of a two-story house in the rural community of Olympia in Bath County.

Veeneman says the fire started just after 6 a.m. and destroyed the home.

He said two adults and four children were home at the time of the fire, and the adults and two children escaped.

Veeneman said the adults and one child were at University of Kentucky hospital in Lexington. He said the adults are in stable condition and the child is in critical condition. He said the fourth child was treated and released from St. Joseph's hospital in Mount Sterling.

Although state police have not yet identified the victim's names; Bath County school officials says the two children dead are 8th grader Kayla Withrow and 7th grader Lucy Withrow.

They also say their sister, 9th grader, Danielle Withrow was injured in the fire along with their 6th grade brother AJ Withrow.

Bath County school officials say the children's parents are Mr. & Mrs. Virgil Withrow.

Investigators are now working to determine the cause of the fire. They say it could take several days to determine because of all the damage.

I am so sorry for this family. I went ot church with them a few times and they are just the sweetest family you could ever see. They did not deserve this and they are in my heart and prayers right now! I am so terribly sorry for all the families pain. They are just so sweet I have no idea why they had to go like this. I just hope they go to heaven!

Knowing the Withrow family for most of life and knowing how loving parents they are. My heart is so heavy of sorrow for the family. I just hope they can hold onto God's loving hand to uplift them all in this time of need. May God be with the entire family and friends. My thoughts are with you.

I knew these children and at one time I was their babysitter. My heart is broken and I can't stop my tears from falling. I pray for Danielle and for AJ to be safe. I haven't seen or spoke to the children in years........but just the other day I found old pictures of them. They would always greet me with a smile and ready to tell on each other for whatever reason. I now have the memories of them all. May god be with the wonderful people who took them in their home and gave them the family life they so deserve.
