Crash Kills Three In Pikeville

A traffic crash in Pikeville has killed three people and injured three others.

Pikeville police say the crash occurred on U.S. 23 about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Pike County Deputy Coroner Zeb Hampton identified those who died as 41-year-old Andrew Smith of Dwarf in Perry County, and 47-year-old Ernest Johnson and 7-year-old Christian Beau Caudill, both of Pikeville.

Hampton said three others - two children and an adult - were injured.

Investigating officers said they found three vehicles at the crash site. Police said one vehicle crossed the median of the highway and crashed into an oncoming vehicle, killing victims in both of them.

A third vehicle was damaged by debris.

Just so that people who don't live here understand...this is a good, flat, straight stretch of US 23. 4 Lanes. People just drive too fast and don't pay attention...and believe me it is much worse in Lexington. Don't judge.

To the person who states Lexington and the lower end of Kentucky has good roads, that's bull the roads down there are as bad as here. If you want to thank coal tax then thank the lower end cause we are the ones who mine the coal put up with the dust and the nastiness, then you through off on us get real. What happened was a accident no one to blame it happens in Lexington or Florida just like here. Kentuckians are the best people in the world. We are talked about all over the world now I guess even the Kentuckians are gonna down us. You know no matter where we live we need to Thank God for our lives every day and pray that we do what is right to make sure we make it to heaven. Pray for the ones that are in the hospital right now the girl who was with Smith is in very bad shape and could use all the prayers she can get .

Ernie was one of my teachers and I got to know him very well during my 4 years at Pikeville High. EJ was a GREAT guy and he will be missed by the entire Pikeville community. I am a very close friend of the Caudill family, and losing their 7 year old son is tough and I can't imagine what Christian and Toni are going thru. Beau's Big Sister Alex is undergoing sugergies at Cabell Midland in Huntington, but she is expected to make a full recovery...Thank God. Please pray for Johnson Family and the Caudill/Holland Families during these tough times.
