Across Mideast, Arabs Hail Shoe-Hurling Journalist

BAGHDAD (AP) - An Iraqi reporter is a shoe-in for man of the
hour among Arabs in many parts of the Middle East for his insult to
President George W. Bush.
Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets today to demand the
release of the man who threw his shoes at Bush, a gesture that's
considered a sign of contempt.
And Arabs across the Middle East hailed the journalist as a hero
and praised his insult as a proper send-off to the unpopular U.S.
An Iraqi official says the journalist (Muntadhar al-Zeidi), who
was kidnapped by militants last year, is being held by Iraqi
security. He's being questioned about whether anybody paid him to
throw his shoes at Bush during a news conference the previous day
in Baghdad.
The incident is providing fodder for jokes and it's being hailed
by the president's many critics in the region.

I wonder,, since he didn't actually hurt Bush (or worse), if he will just get 34 virgins when he dies instead of 72? Anybody????

I still think it's funny that someone would throw their shoes at someone. Shows how different our cultures are, here they would've cussed him out or thrown tomatoes at him. But I did see the shoe-throwing incident on TV, and while comical, I have to say that if either of those shoes had hit Bush, it would've hurt, because he didn't just throw them, he pitched them like a major-leaguer. Goes to show that even after 8 disappointing years in office, Bush still has reflexes like a cat.

"And Arabs across the Middle East hailed the journalist as a hero and praised his insult as a proper send-off to the unpopular U.S. president." Sure, never mind that the U.S. has done more to make them "rich Arabs" then any other country in the world. Before anyone says anything about Bush or republicans, remember that they hate all Americans, democrats or republicans - we are all hated infidels to them - it makes no difference.
