Family Reacts To Double Loss In Tragic Car Crash

Slick road conditions are being blamed for a crash that killed two people late Tuesday night.
Now family members are trying to deal with the double-loss.

28-year-old Crystal Moler and 3-year-old Jakob Cupps left Winchester and were heading to Jeffersonville on Tuesday night to visit her fiance when Moler lost control of her car on the icy road.

Moler was traveling on U.S. 460 near Carmargo, when her car spun into the path of a pickup truck.

Her mom, Joyce Craycraft, says family members tried to get her not to drive on the icy roads.

She says, today was the hardest day she's ever gone through and that her daughter meant the world to her.

"She was always laughing and joking and happy", says Joyce Craycraft.

Crystal Moler was driving 3-year-old Jakob Cupps, her nephew.

"He was just a great boy. He was smart. He would listen to you and would do anything to make you happy", says Wesley Cupps, Jakob's father.

"They played with each other all the time. That's the first thing his brother will realize. That he doesn't have his big brother anymore", says Wesley Cupps.

Now both families are trying to deal with the loss of a 28-year-old mother of three, and a 3-year-old boy with so much to live for.

"One minute they are here and you are loving them and the next minute they are gone", says Joyce Craycraft.

"I'm just hoping I'll wake up and that this is just a bad dream", says Wesley Cupps.

Funeral arrangements are still pending for Crystal Moler and Jakob Cupps.

Both families say they will need help paying for the funerals of their family members.

So far, a fund has been set up for Jakob Cupps at area locations of United Bank.

The coroner says Cupps was in the proper child safety restraints in the back seat and Moler was wearing her seat belt.

R.I.P Baby Jake 11/16/2005-12/16/2008. I miss my baby boy and i really appreciate everything that everyone has offered to do or has done. We all miss them both. Jake and Crystal were so full of life. Jake loved having his picture taken and Crystal just enjoyed being around the ones she loved everyday. I really appreciate all the thoughts and prayers that everyone has sent out. Thank you all.

This is sooo very sad. Especially around the holidays. I lost a sister in a car accident on christmas eve night due to a drunk driver. I hope this family can just remember the good times, and always keep them in their hearts, but learn to move on. Its really hard to move on, but our loved ones are in a better place. I hope God blesses this family through this hardship.

My heart goes out to this family and the only advice I know to give is turn to God and ask Him to help you. He is the ONLY way to get through something like this.
