Police: 4 Men Dead In Crash As Car Flees

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville police say four men are dead
after the car in which they were riding crashed into a tree while
fleeing police.

Alicia Smiley, spokeswoman for Louisville Metro Police, says the
incident occurred about 8 p.m. in downtown Louisville.

Smiley says police pulled over a Honda Accord that was suspected
to have been stolen, but when two officers walked toward the
vehicle, it sped off.

Smiley says the driver then lost control and the car crashed
into a tree.

She says three men in the car were pronounced dead at the scene
and one man was pronounced dead at University Hospital. The fifth
occupant of the car, also a male, was also taken to University
Hospital, but Smiley says his condition is unknown.

She says the victims' identifications have not been released
pending notification of their families.

Smiley says the officers have been placed on administrative
while the incident is investigated.
