Keeping The County Clerk Job In The Family

Lexington will soon have a new county clerk but he'll have a familiar name.

Don Blevins, Junior was appointed Tuesday to replace his father, who is retiring after 27 years on the job and 35 years in public office.

The younger Blevins is currently a city councilman, which means mayor Jim Newberry will appoint his successor at city hall.

Don Blevins, Senior says he plans to pursue other interests and will be a phone call away for advice, if it's needed.

Fayette Judge-Executive Sandra Verallas' appointment is effective January 1st.

Blevins Jr. is the best choice for the citizens of Lexington! He will continue the great level of service at the County Clerks Office. And Charlie, try renewing your tags by mail. You'll avoid both the line and the trafic.

Blevins Jr may be a good guy. But I am just uncomfortable with this. I have never been happy with the struggle of trying to get my tags renewed in Fayette Co anyway. To include the freaking line and having to go downtown. They can put him in it. But that doesn't mean I have to vote to keep him in there.Getting too much like College Basketball like the Pitino and Smith family

Good Grief! What is it with appointing the relatives to the position of retiring or dead politicians? This should NEVER BE ALLOWED! Just the S.O.S. in this town/State. I think ALL positions should be filled by special election and not by appointment. Clueless/arrogant politicians need to get a grip on reality as to why they are so despised.
