Fire Rips Through Apartment Building

The timing couldn't be worse. Just a few days before Christmas, some central Kentucky family are homeless.

Several apartments were destroyed by a raging fire in Richmond.

It's happened at an apartment building on Killarney Lane at around 10:00 Tuesday morning.

The flames gutted six units. A total of 11 units were damaged in some way.

Everyone got out of the burning building OK.

Residents we talked to say they think a child playing with a lighter may have started the fire. Investigators are looking into that claim.

Fire crews were on the scene for much of the day to monitor hot spots and pull items from the building for residents who are now homeless.

The fire department is not allowing anyone back into the damaged building until Wednesday.

Thank God no one was injured or killed. My prayers go out to these families. We need to learn to count our blessings. Thank God for our brave firemen as well.

Today I witnessed what Christmas is really about, giving to others in a time of need. I work for a nearby business and this morning the Red Cross asked if residents could enter our building to get out of the cold. We took them in with open arms and started a food and clothing drive. I would personally like to thank the local businesses and people that gave food and clothing donations to the fire victims! Although this was a tragic event, we managed to bring a ray of happiness into these people's lives. THANK YOU! I wish everyone a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year!
