Deadly Crash Is Still Under Investigation

Police returned to the scene of a Pike County car crash that killed three people, including a child, two weeks ago.

Police are still investigating what caused the crash on U.S. 23.

Officers say Andrew Smith of Perry County crashed into an SUV, killing Smith, and Ernie Johnson of Pikeville and seven year old Christian Beau Caudill.

Tuesday morning they shut down U.S. 23 where the accident happened and re-created the crash, hoping to figure out why it happened.

“We need to do that to mark the evidence points to have a visual so that we can go back and look at and determine what exactly took place in the collision,” Bruce Collins said.

Police say they are waiting on DNA evidence from Smith's car before they can determine the exact cause.

Such a tragedy for all involved. The loss of an adult is horrible but a child can be unbearable. God bless all of those involved and my prayers for the families will continue.
