Be Careful Putting Your Holiday Trash Out

If you drove through area neighborhoods you could tell it's the day after Christmas by the trash on the curbs.

With crime on the rise this time of year, police say setting out empty boxes could make your home a prime target for thieves.

“They'll look at the garbage to see what you got for Christmas and they'll try to catch you away from the house and go in and get that big screen tv that you've got the box out on the sidewalk for,” Captain James East, Hazard PD said.

Police say you should set your trash out the day it is supposed to be picked up.

They also suggest using dark colored bags to conceal your trash.
