Obama Team Urges Delay in Digital TV Transition

WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama is urging
Congress to postpone the Feb. 17 switch from analog to digital
television broadcasting.
In a letter to key lawmakers, transition team co-chair John
Podesta warned Thursday that too many Americans who rely on analog
TV sets to pick up over-the-air broadcasts won't be ready.
The incoming administration is pushing for a delay in part
because the Commerce Department has run out of money for the
coupons that subsidize digital TV converter boxes for consumers.
People who don't have cable or satellite TV or a new TV with a
digital tuner will need the converter boxes to keep their analog
TVs working.
Obama officials are also concerned that the government is not
giving consumers enough help with the TV transition.

Unfortunately many of us who requested and received the coupon early in the process in an effort to be proactive were unable to buy the box due to a lack of availabilty prior to the coupons expiration date. After a request for additional coupon to replace the unused original, I was told - "sorry, no additonal coupons can be issued - have someone who doesn't need them order some for you". So rather than have a coupon with more than a 90 day window to allow for availability issues, they recomended making a bogus request. Well run program isn't it? I wonder how well the $700 billion bail out will work if they can't administer a coupon program.

Guess they could use their welfare checks to buy a converter box or trade some Oxycodone for one.

What a joke. With all that's going on in our country and the world you'd think he should be focused of more important things like, oh I don't know, the economy, national security. .. But no, Obama is worried about cable boxes when people have known about this for at least a year, maybe longer. Obama's motto: Take care of all those who won't take responsibility for themselves! Sickening.

Anyone still using rabbit ears shouldn't be allowed to still get TV. If you are not smart enough to figure out the upgrade with enough crappy commercials they are running for it.. too bad.. Give us that analog bandwidth for more important things
