In a slumping economy, one part of eastern Kentucky is getting some relief.
In this tough economy, people in Corbin say the new expo center is coming just in time.
“We've been struggling the last year, new business, we just started last January so we just hit a year,” Theresa Kranz said.
The owner of the Mountain View Lodge is looking for the new Southeast Kentucky Agricultural and Exposition Center to provide some economic relief. The new facility will begin hiring for several positions next week.
“It's hard to find jobs here, so any kind of employment opportunities they bring here is wonderful because people are taking any job they can get right now,” Lesley Cook said.
The expo center is looking for part-time workers to for things like ticket selling, housekeeping, food serving and security.
It will be a new opportunity for many, and when the 25 million dollar facility opens in March, local businesses hope to cash in.
The new expo center is on track to open the first week of March.
Expo Center officials are holding career fairs next week to begin the process of hiring workers.
