Newspaper Office Gunman Sentenced To 10 Years

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky man accused of killing his wife and then holding a newspaper editor hostage has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the slaying.

John W. Todd Jr. is the brother of Richmond Register Editor Jim Todd. The newspaper reports that John Todd killed Lynn Todd and then held his brother at gunpoint in the newspaper office for 90 minutes on March 6, 2007.

John Todd had been indicted on murder charges but pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter Sept. 24.

In a December hearing, Todd unsuccessfully attempted to convince
Fayette Circuit Judge Beverly Bunnell that he was a victim of domestic violence. He was sentenced on Friday.

No charges have been filed for the incident at the newspaper.
