President Obama's role as the first African American president holds special significance for one university in the Bluegrass.

Kentucky State University is the state's only historically African American University.

Tuesday, hundreds of their students, faculty and community members gathered on campus at the Student Center for an Inaugural viewing party to see Barack Obama be sworn into office.

The KSU Marching Thorobreds kicked off the event, which was a first for the university.

"We had a lot of students who wanted to go to Washington, but couldn't get closer than three hours for a hotel, so we decided to bring some of the inauguration festivities to campus," says Mary Evans Sias, KSU's President.

For many people at the event, this Inauguration was something they had always dreamed of.

"This whole thing is motivation to every young person here," says Kameisha Bond, a KSU student.

"I didn't think anything like this would ever happen but it did and I'm very happy," says Marissa Hall, a KSU student.

"It's one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen in my lifetime to see a President motivate this many people. It's amazing," says KSU alumnus, Joel Schrader, who brought his son to watch the Inauguration on KSU's campus.

"It's hard to put into words the emotion. It's hard," says KSU student, Sankara Harouna.

"It just makes you think anything is possible. If you put your mind to it, it's possible," says KSU student, Sierra Savage.

A Red, White, and Blue party was also held Monday night on KSU's campus to kick off the Inauguration events.
