Gas Stations Fined For Price Gouging

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Attorney General Jack Conway says his office has reached a settlement with seven Kentucky gas stations over allegations of price-gouging.

Conway announced Wednesday that the stations have agreed to pay a combined $107,500 to the state.

His office began an investigation into allegations of price-gouging
following Hurricane Ike last September. Gas prices in Kentucky spiked as Hurricane Ike bore down on the Texas coast, prompting Gov. Steve Beshear to declare a state of emergency triggering the state's anti-price gouging law.

Conway said prosecutors are negotiating a settlement with an eighth station, but refused to give any details.

None of the gas stations who settled admitted to any wrongdoing or guilt.

the reason for higher prices from one state to another is partly caused from a difference in the gasoline tax.why do you think our governor took a cut in his and all state emploee's wages... duh !!!!!

Last I knew KY oil got their gas out of Lexington , Ashland & Knoxville never heard anything about SC unless it's just recently . Yea pretty crappy the government gets the money and the station don't have to claim no guilt. I guess they are wanting us to like it while they buy new boats cars trucks and such and just add 8 to 12 cents to the gallon every time they think they can slip it by .

Oil is selling now at around $40 a barrell. Gas has risen in price, with oil falling. Reason for this----refineries have cut production to keep gas prices higher !!!! Wait until they start the change over from winter to summer driving gsoline... We'll see $3 a gallon gas with oil still selling in the 40's....

Give us a bigger refund on our state taxes. That's what I say to our government that fined the gas stations. If not, then why bother going after them? It was us, not the government that first noticed the price gouging so, reward us please. If it wasn't for consumers complaining, this fining would not have happened. NOW it is time to check into price gouging at the grocery stores!!!!

Now that we have made the gas stations pay up for price gouging, I figure $2,755 of that is mine. Anyone know where I can go to pick up MY reimbursement money???

you just can't ignore Childers Oil company being 20 cents higher than everyone else. if Walmart and Foodcity didn't have pumps, it would be 50 cents higher.

TO DENISE...OK THEN I'LL ADMIT WHEN I'M WRONG. NOW YOU SAY THAT THE PRICE OFF GAS IS DETERMINED BY THE AREAS POPULATION, DEMAND, AND SUPPLY (NUMBER OF TRUCKS). WHERE DOES LEXINGTON GET THEIR GAS SUPPLY FROM? NOW, WHY DONT WE GET OUR GAS FROM ASHLAND? THEY STILL HAVE A REFINERY THERE DONT THEY? OK DENISE....WHAT ABOUT WVA GAS...IN SAY SOUTH WILLIAMSON GAS IS 1.849 THEN RIGHT ACROSS THE RIVER IN WILLIAMSOM IT'S 2.009. PLEASE CAN ANYONE ANSWER THIS?
