She died doing what she loved; now people who knew paramedic Christa Burchett are helping save lives in her honor.

Thursday marked one year since Burchett was killed while helping accident victim.

Friends and family are honoring her and the woman she was trying to help.

Christa Burchett's family friends and co workers paused for a moment of silence at 10:07am the time of her death this day last year.

The paramedic gave her life helping another. Burchett was trying to put 24-year old Erica Brown, who was pregnant in an ambulance after a minor wreck, when police say a coal truck slid on icy roads into them.

The collision killed both women and the unborn child.

Family and friends are keeping her giving spirit alive. They held a blood drive in her memory.

Nearly 100 donated.

Some knew Burchett well, others never met her.

They are also honoring brown and her unborn child.

Friends say they still haven't healed from the loss and now they are saving lives to keep her memory alive.

Jon, you are an insensitive A**... I have never met this lady but was moved by the story last year and thought that a benefit in her honor was definitely news worthy. Your comments are what is wrong with society, the people having the benefit show that there are still people with hearts. You have obviously never lost anyone close to you. I pray you don't, it is a horrible thing. For this woman to lose her life on the job, IT is news. You need to apologize. I would rather read a story about this then a lot of other stuff in the news

Jon you can take your unwelcome comments elsewhere. She was a personal friend of mine as well as a co-worker for many years. I can't believe you have the audacity to even leave a comment like that. I did notice you left the comment here, faceless and unaccounted for. Why didn't you bring yourself to the memorial service and ask why "THIS" was being brought up again. Because you'd have probably gotten way more than just a hateful comment in return. So take your cowardly, rude and unwelcome comments some place else. Fight for your friends, always. I miss Chris everyday. Here family will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

I want to thank WYMT and all the people that came out and showed thier respect for OUR FALLEN HERO, Christa Burchett! 54 people gave blood and over 100 came for the Candle Light Ceremony. Christa was a wondeful person and sister-in-law. She will be truly missed by ALL of her friends and family! Christa will ALWAYS be remembered each and every year with some sort of a Memorial. Thanks again for the news coverage from WYMT, the East Ky Blood CEnter & Bubby Davis, Melanie Davis, Bobbi Collins, Terri Hopson and Danielle Bundy Arms...without you all things wouldn't have gone as GREAT as they did. Once again thanks to all came out on the 1 year anniversary death of OUR FALLEN HERO, CHRISTA BURCHETT!

I did not know Christa or Erica but, this was far too young to die. My family lives near the father of the unborn child, I know of the person closest to Christa, and this is devistating for all families involved. I have empathy for everyone.
