The House Passes Economic Stimulus Plan

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House has pushed through a massive
economic stimulus package.
The approval is a big victory for President Barack Obama.
The vote for the $819 billion program was 244-188. No Republican
voted for the package despite direct appeals for bipartisanship by
the president. They insist on more tax cuts and less spending.
After the vote, Obama issued a statement saying the plan will
save or create more than three million jobs over the next few
years. He also welcomed congressional leaders of both parties to
the White House for drinks and more lobbying.
The vote sent the bill to the Senate. Debate could begin there
as soon as Monday on companion legislation.
Democrats have promised to have recovery legislation ready for
Obama's signature by mid-February.

Highlights of Kentucky's portion of a proposed $816 billion
economic recovery plan that the House approved on Wednesday.

How the delegation voted:
Democrats - Chandler, Y; Yarmuth, Y.
Republicans - Davis, N; Guthrie, N; Rogers, N; Whitfield, N.

well i think the problem is that people dont want to work anymore and who can blame them.they can sit on their a--while the rest of us work ours off and get everything coming and going while we get nothing from the gov.i think to get the rebate check should have to had a job for at least the past six months.I also think should apply before you get any income tax return.you should not be able to only work a month or so just for the tax return and get back just as much or than a person who has work the whole year some have to pay in because they dont have kids to draw a check on they actully work.

Glad to see that we're at least getting something this time around. Beats not even making the list. And I can't believe my eyes we're actually getting something for mass transit, hopefully it won't all go to Lexington. Finally a politician who did something besides just pass through on the campaign trail and made empty promises.

Steve who do we lay the first stimulas package on .I think that would be old George W and pals. The package That was supposed to help keep people from losing their homes instead went to all the big companies to squander Citi group was going to use 100 million of it to pay for a company jet after so much coverage on cnn they decided against buying it. I'm sick and tired of people bashing Obama he's only been in office 1 month,If you can remember back the last 8 years we've had a republician president .Look where we are today. Can any of you remember when times have been this bad..I know I can't.Even the republicians are saying this...

In reply to "unemployed" : You do deserve unemployment payments if the state agency dispensing them says you are eligible. However, it is not because you paid into UI, it is the business you worked for that made those payments.
