WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) is encouraging fire departments throughout southern and eastern Kentucky to apply for Fire Prevention and Safety Grants through the Department of Homeland Security. The deadline for submitting application materials is 5:00 pm (EST) on Friday, March 6, 2009.
“The federal fire grant program provides funding for training and equipment that is critical to protecting our firefighters and the people they serve,” said Rogers. “Funding for basic training, equipment, and fire prevention activities are essential in preventing the lost of life or injury and I encourage all of our fire departments to take advantage of this opportunity.”
The Fire Prevention and Safety Program Grants target high risk populations to mitigate death and injury. Nationwide, nearly $35 million is made available to local fire departments to provide public education and media campaigns about fire safety, and arson awareness and prevention programs.
