Mother Defends Son Accused In Child Porn Case

The mother of a Hazard man charged in what police call a 'massive' child porn case says her son is sick, but not a monster.
We sat down with her in their home to hear her side of the story.

"A shock I'll never get over." That's how Leona Gay describes what she saw on the news Monday night: a child porn case centered around her son, Jimmy Darrell Gay ... one police say is growing more disturbing.

Hazard Police Captain James East says, "There is a possibility that there are some local children in here, due to some of the labeling on some of the CD's and floppy disks."

But Gay's mother is coming to his defense.

Leona Gay says, "I want people to know that Jimmy's not what they think he is. He'd do anything in the world for anybody, he'd never hurt nobody."

Leona Gay says her son's service in Vietnam led to a number of physical and mental problems ... and this collection started when he came home. She says the locks of hair are from friends he lost in battle.

"He brought all that garbage back from Vietnam, them boxes," she says.

Marie Luby asks: "When you saw these pictures, what did you say to him?"
Leona Gay replies: "Get rid of these things, get rid of them now. But he didn't do it."

But about ten minutes later, Leona Gay says she never saw the pictures and did not know what any of the tapes or disks showed.

Marie Luby asks: "How could you not see it, how could you not know it was here?"
Leona Gay replies: "Because I didn't mess in his business."

Gay's business is now the business of the FBI, who are in talks with the U.S. Attorney's office.

Leona Gay says, "He's a good boy, he's a good person, but he needs help."

She prays her son gets treatment, not jail time.

This is not Jimmy Darrell Gay's first arrest.
He was charged with impersonating an officer back in 1993, after allegedly using a sheriff's deputy badge to harass male students at an Eastern Kentucky University residence hall, where he worked.
EKU officials tell us Gay was accused of taking nude photos and videos of male students, and taking hair souvenirs.
Gay was fired the day of his arrest.

Im having a clumbo moment,,,Now MSNBC ( to catch a preatior) and all these 1=800 hotline call 24 hours day ,Hummmm??? either our 14 yo and 17 yo children is either real smart or real dumb you tell me, I always herd you cant rape the willing, Our children must have muzzels on, cant they talk say , or do they dont want to talk? just being honest here, some 17 yo boys are 6ft 5 and out of highschool big football players and knows more about sex then men 50 years old whats wrong with them cant they defend there self? My thoughts is that someone that has a desire for younger people might have been molested there self and never broke the cycle so they grow up and become twice the victim , Once when they was young and then again when they are older,Adlof Hitlers blood still pumps in the veines of a lot of people in Ky

brittany, I am an atheist, but I will "pray" that he falls off a cliff, steps out in front of a car, or otherwise gets taken off this the rest of the scum that would bother a child.

I think instead of saying hang him and talking garbage you all should pray for him..God could help this man and his mother more than anyone else could ever imagine..I agree with fnord..Stop saying what you think they should do to him and just pray that he finds it in his heart to stop doing this stuff..He is sick for doing what he done but im sure you guys have done some bad stuff too..maybe nothing like this but still we all have some things that corrupt in our lives..
  • by Angered @ fnord Location: Pikeville on Feb 4, 2009 at 08:25 PM you have the crime stats for the 11th century???makes perfect sense to me, why spend my hard earned tax dollars so he can get health care, 3 squares a day and a free education. Any crime against a child should be considered violent and absolutely deserves the same if not worse punishment. Personally, I feel we should adopt some of the previous centuries ideas, might make some would be pervs stop and think before they act.

of course mommy is going to defend her son y saying he is sick but if she knew he was sick why didn't she get him help. But if that was my son he deserves everything that the judge gives him.. yes i my heart would be hurting but he deserves it.

I have family members that were in Vietnam & they did not come back perverts. Vietnam vets have enough real illnesses, like PTSD & Agent orange, that they cannot help & the mother of this perverted nothing is just making excuses for him. If he was truly a vet he would be a good person with real health problems. An excuse can be made for anything & thats just what this mother is doing. Sounds like he is a liar on top of everything else because those hair samples DID NOT come from his buddies killed in Vietnam I am betting. I would NEVER uphold a child of mine doing such vile acts against children.
