Man Charged With Killing Child

A northern Kentucky man stands charged with murder a month after the death of a one-year-old girl.

Police say Kiara Smith was brought to a hospital in Boone County where she was pronounced dead. She lived with her mother in Crittenden

Her mother's boyfriend, 24-year-old Douglas Barnhill, claims the child fell and hit her head.

An autopsy showed she died from multiple injuries to her head.

Barnhill was indicted in Grant County on Wednesday for murder and is now behind bars.

i have had the pleasure of meeting the baby, and the displeasure of knowing the accused babykiller mr.barnhill. i believe he did it just knowing what kind of a person he is and knowing what kind of past he holds, with the death of his father a few years back, i wouldn't dought that he shot him then too.

I am friends with the father and his family of this little girl. I see and hear the grief they feel in their voices and in their faces. I got the chance to meet this beautiful little girl and she would just melt your heart. She was full of joy, love, and life. Then on that very sad and terrifying day she lost her life to a MONSTER! I can't understand why someone would want to be this mean and hateful to a innocent child. But you know what there is justice and he will pay for what he has done to this little girl and her family. I pray for this family everyday and it breaks my heart to see them so upset. They want and need everyone's prayers that this MONSTER gets what he deserves and that is never to walk free on this earth ever again.

Debbie- I can easily understand your rage because this child is my paternal niece.. I just wanted to assure you that "the person that got this pregnant" and his mother had this child three times a week (more than most fathers in this situation)..They loved her exceptionally and were in no position to intervene before this tradegy..I respect your anger and you are right, things must change..Please pray for our family as we try to move forward..God Bless!

ok, this is sickening. all these child-killings are getting out of hand. i say; don't put these people in 'jail'. they have it made in there. they eat free, have no bills to pay, and even have a 'commisary' where they can buy just about anything. STOP-THAT! the word 'jail' or 'prison' is supposed to scare people. not anymore. struggling to survive=irritability, depression, anxiety, etc. while i do agree that some folks need to be 'detained' a while, i don't agree that murderers and the like should be allowed those same privileges. those who commit heinous crimes should not be allowed ANY privileges at all. AND their treatment should be televised for all to see. if people knew they weren't going to have gravy with their mashed potatoes, they might be prodded to actually 'think' before they do something bad to anyone else. somewhere in the bible it states; "if the right hand offend thee, cut it off". sounds like a plan to me...
