Officials in Bath County are looking into a case of animal cruelty involving nearly 60 horses. The horses were found near the Salt Lick community off of Kentucky Road 211.

Bath County Animal Control confirmed nine horses are dead and more than four dozen horses remain, many in bad shape.

Animal Control Officer Roger Tapp went on the farm and fed the horses himself. He says it's still unclear what caused them to die.

It's now launched an ongoing investigation to see if any criminal charges will be filed.

A veterinarian is expected to be at the farm this week. The county has donated salt and mineral blocks to feed the horses.

When a human being can let something this beautiful starve to death there is definitly something wrong with them .........Kentucky is the Horse capital of the world.....and we let this kind of treatment go on.. there should be stricter laws on the book especially in ky.......

Actually in KY animal abuse is worse, you get more jail time for abusing animal than you do a child.. Now thats sad

What is wrong with people today. I find this to be JUST as bad as CHILD ABUSE. Before all you "perfect" folks go complaining about my making that statement think of this...Animals, like children DEPEND on their owner to take care of them. IF the owner does NOT take care of them, they do not have the capacity of taking care of themselves, the same as a child. I find this HORRIBLE. They should be punished to the FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW!!!
