Former Perry County Attorney Dies in Sleep

Authorities say former Perry County Attorney John Mark Barger died in his sleep early Monday morning.

Barger was pronounced dead at the Whitesburg ARH.

The Letcher County Corner says it appears he dies of complications fro sleep apnea, and no foul play is suspected.

Barger was the Perry County Attorney from 1993 to 1999.

His law lacense was suspended in 2000 after he was convicted of possessing an illegal painkiller, but that suspension was dissolved in 2002 after the drug conviction was overturned by the State Court of Appeals.

Visitation for Barger will be today at 6:00 p.m. and the Funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Letcher Funeral Home.

Mark Barger was 51 years old.
