One eastern Kentucky community is working to battle drug use in their community, but their method of helping those who have an addiction is very unique.

Residents in Harlan County are fighting drug abuse with theatre.

For some acting is a talent, but that's not quite so for the cast of characters in Higher Ground.

The storyline of the play "Higher Ground" is based on the real-life stories of these actors from Harlan County.

Carolyn Sundy grew up in Harlan County and still lives there today.

She says one problem these actors hope to tackle with tales of their real-life experiences is drug abuse.

For some it's a story of drug addiction and for others their script depicts growing pains and the struggles of life.

The goal of this production is to change someone's life and to inspire at least one person to reach higher in life and reach for higher ground.

The play "Higher Ground" will be shown Thursday night at seven-thirty at the Godbey Appalachian Center on the campus of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College in Cumberland.

You can contact the school for more show times.
