Slain Chimp's Owner Now Says it Wasn't on Xanax

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - The owner of a 200-pound domesticated
chimpanzee that went berserk and mauled a Connecticut woman has
changed her story on whether she gave the animal the anti-anxiety
drug Xanax.
Sandra Herold told the The Associated Press today that she
"never, ever" gave the drug to her 14-year-old chimp, Travis. The
animal on Monday attacked Herold's friend, 55-year-old Charla Nash,
leaving her severely injured.
Stamford police said Herold told them that she gave Travis Xanax
earlier on Monday to calm him because he was agitated. And in an
interview aired Wednesday on NBC's "Today" show she said she gave
the chimp some Xanax-laced tea "five minutes" before the attack -
she even showed a reporter the mug.
A University of Chicago doctor says the anti-anxiety drug can
lead to aggression in people who are unstable to begin with.

Well we have to thank Travis and all the Chimps of the world for trying out these drugs before humans took them, One would think many years ago Humahs would have learned from Medical animal expearance that xanax would not hurt a chimp, why now maybe it was the tea? or the woman said something to Travis smart mouth and he had had enough....xanax is a wonderful medicine it has been shown that xanax rebuilds damaged heart muscel after aheart attack and wonderful for people with house bound panic agorpheobics Travis in old you know hope he is ok and his friends as well....maybe it was a withdraw and the woman is at fault, did a vet prescribe this xanax for the Travis? it is a controled substance you know does the law apply to animals as well as humans? could be his owner should not play Dr with a good monkey and a good medicine....
