Lexington Actor Comes Up Empty

It was close but no cigar on Sunday night for a Lexington-born actor.

Michael Shannon was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Revolutionary Road, but the late Heath Ledger came away with the prize.

Ledger won the posthumous Oscar for his role as the Joker in "The Dark Knight." Ledger's parents and sister accepted the award on his behalf.

Michael Shannon grew up in Lexington and went to Henry Clay High School and Tates Creek Middle School

Dead or gay and he would have been a shoo-in.

"Came up Empty"? I think not! He got recognition by his peers for an excellant performance as an actor before a national TV audience. That does not sound very empty to me.

I'm sad that a KY boy didn't get the oscar but was very happy to see Heath win it. He was an amazing actor and he played a fabulous and chilling role. Congrats to Heath and to his family as well, especially Matilda.
