It started as a requirement to earn a boy scout badge, but now one local basketball tournament is turning into a tradition.

Three years ago, boy scouts from Troup 90 in Hazard organized the tournament for the cubs scouts who also earned a badge for participating. Now the evening of basketball encourages the younger boys to stay with the scout program to give them positive activities through high school.

Five year boy scout Lawrence Miller says, "It helps them instead of going down the wrong road, you know, they always have something to go back to and not get in trouble."

The scout master hopes to continue the tournament for years to come.
