Sheriff Launches Citizens Police Academy

The sheriff of one county wants the public to get an up close and personal look at his department.

Harlan County Sheriff Marvin Lipfird is launching a Citizens Police Academy.

His department is taking applications right now for the 13 week course, which he hopes will not only inform people, but strengthen the office's bond with the community.

“I just want people to realize that the sheriff's department, we do a lot more than people realize we do,” Sheriff Lipfird said.

The sheriff says nearly 30 people have already applied for the academy.

They are taking applications through Thursday.
