Student Killed On Way To School

A high school student is dead and two other people are in the hospital after a head-on crash Wednesday morning in Laurel County.

Police say 16 year old Jonathan Goforth tried to pass another vehicle and hit a truck head-on.

Goforth is at the UK Hospital. His condition is not being released.

Goforth's passenger, 15 year old Steven Lambdin, was also flown to UK where he died Wednesday afternoon.

The driver of the truck, 38 year old Carrie Smith, is also at UK Hospital in serious condition.

I think its okay for them to get there permit at 16 but not allow to take driver test until 18 so they get a least 2 yrs driving experince with a license driver with them over 21 in the car or a parent who should be with them. and who can verify they are a safe drive and all should half to take a drivers course before takeing driver test. and they need to have a sign put on there vehicle saying permit driver learning and when they get full licinse to. just a mom who daughter was 16 when she got hers and will be 18 when she gets her licenses

I HAVE NO CLUE HOW THIS FAMILY IS FEELING BUT I DO KOW THAT THE LORD IS WITH YOU IN YOUR TIME OF PAIN BUT I WILL TELL EVERYONE I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD BE 21 TO BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE IF YOU ARE LEGAL TO DRINK THEN YOU COULD DRIVE I NEVER STARTED DRIVING TIL I WAS 26 I WAS ALWAYS AFRAID. I THINK SOMEONE SHOULD START A PROTEST TO GET THE LEGAL DRIVING AGE UPED TO 21.

My sympathy to the parents and family and friends. We never know why and we are not to question but he was so young. Know that you're in our thoughts and prayers

Rest in peace, steven. You will be missed by many not only at your home school, but all over the county. At least we have the comfort of knowing that you have reached a better place.

Just another example of why 16 year olds don't need to drive. When are we going to wake up and raise the age to 18? After all the 16 year olds die?
