WestCare Celebrates One Year Anniversary

An Eastern Kentucky substance abuse treatment facility celebrated its one year anniversary Sunday. WestCare Kentucky is a regimented 12 step program for adult males in Pike County that has played a positive role in many addicts' lives.

30 year old Chad Webb has a history, a history of drug abuse, drug dealing, a history of pain that affected his wife and three small children.

"I'd hit my rock bottom. It was time to bounce back up," Webb said.

So after an arrest and jail time, Webb began treatment at a facility called WestCare Kentucky. Seven months later, Chad Webb now has a future.

"It saved my life. I love this place, I come back at least twice a week. I'm vice president of the alumni association, I stay involved. I'd do anything to help it," Webb said.

The one year old treatment facility made some history of its own Sunday as WestCare Kentucky became the WestCare Hal Rogers Appalachian Recovery Center.

"I could not think of something I'd rather have my name associated with, than a place that's so dramatically lifting people out of the ditch, like they are here," Rep. Hal Rogers said.

And what started as a dream has played an important reality in the war on drugs that Operation UNITE has been waging in Eastern Kentucky.

"We have so many hundreds and hundreds of addicts in Eastern Kentucky that need help, and don't know how to get it and Operation UNITE is there to shepherd them through that process," said Karen Engle, Executive Director of Operation UNITE.

"They not only arrest people and take the drugs off the streets, but they also help people get the recovery they need, addicts like myself," Webb said.

What's so beautiful about Chad's story is the fact that his success in beating addiction doesn't have to be alone.

As part of their partnership with WestCare, Operation UNITE officials say they have a voucher program that pays for treatment, for addicts who are ready to admit they have a problem.
