Governor wants to keep Oakwood open

SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) - Governor Fletcher says he is doing all within his power to keep the Communities at Oakwood open and operating. His remarks were made to members of the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.

The governor says the state is doing everything possible to retain funding for what he called "an outstanding facility."

Oakwood has received about 25 Class A citations during the past two years for alleged abuse and neglect of residents and 15 employees have been charged with mistreating residents.

Oakwood, located on South U-S 27 in Somerset, currently has about 250 residents.
