FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Executive Branch Ethics Commission has charged two former state officials with improperly trying to get a selection committee to pick particular engineering firms for highway construction projects.

One of the them, former deputy state highway engineer William David Jones, has admitted to two ethics violations and paid a $500 fine. Identical charges are pending against former state highway engineer Sam Beverage.

Transportation Cabinet spokesman Doug Hogan said there was no evidence any engineering firm was improperly selected.

The ethics commission filed documents this week that reveal details of its investigation. The documents include an original investigative report by Transportation Cabinet Inspector General David Ray and transcripts of interviews by commission investigators of Jones, Beverage and others.
