Horse Dies After Collision At Churchill Downs

Tragedy on the track as horses and jockeys prepare for this week's Kentucky Oaks and Derby.

A frightened horse charged down the home stretch Monday morning, running into another horse and its jockey.

It did not involve any Derby horses but the collision at Churchill Downs claimed the life of a two-year-old filly Raspberry Miss

Doctor Rap, a three-year-old colt, threw his rider and took off down the track. He slammed full-speed into Raspberry Miss.

She suffered multiple fractures and lacerations she was brought to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, but she died of shock before she could be euthanized.

Several derby horses were on the track at the time of the accident.

Doctor Rap suffered non life threatening injuries. He had never raced but was scheduled to run later this spring.

Raspberry Miss was trained by Ken McPeek. Doctor Rap is trained by David Carroll.

this had nothing to do with horse racing. it was a freak accident. any horse at any event can spook, throw a rider, and collide into another horse.

It's a shame the the philly died during training.More precautions should be taken during practice and the race to help prevent just a tragedy.
