Georgetown Police Say Conditions Are Pushing Them Out Of Town

Georgetown police officers seem to be at the end of their rope.
They made that very clear to the city council Monday, during a special sound off session.

Representatives with the Fraternal Order of Police, officers, and citizens made it clear that the Georgetown Police Officers are feeling spread too thin. The department claims it's understaffed by more than 20 officers. Some are also upset about their benefits decreasing in quality, losing their anniversary raises, as well as their uniform allowances. The officers also claim they're the lowest paid officers in Kentucky for the size of their deparment.

F.O.P officials say, if things don't get bettter--Georgetown will soon start losing officers.

I think its a dirty shame that Georgetown is in this shape! How did that happen with Toyota paying big money in taxes to the city and we have the lowest paid police force in the state! Its an outrage! I think the Mayor and City Counsel needs audited from the state and the thieves be prosecuted and made to pay it back. With all the new homes everywhere and people paying so much taxes.....SHAME ON YOU MAYOR AND CITY COUNSEL. peace.

I think the officers should be paid at least 30k or better per officer per year with full medical benefits~ I mean really think about it, how many of us are shot at while we work or have to scrape people off the highway?

I wondered what was going on in Georgetown. You never heard much on the news about the town until lately. So it's obvious the crime rate is rising because their on the news alot now. That means they need more police officers to keep crime in check. Come on Georgetown, pay the officers and hire some more and take your city back! It doesn't make sense that the officers have to take pay cuts and decreased benefits when your understaffed! Your saving money being understaffed in the first place so give the officers you have their benefits back. Your town obviously needs more protection. As far as officers getting together for lunch, well, there's no crime in that!! What's wrong with you people out there? Do you always eat lunch alone? They DO get a lunch break and should be able to eat alone or with other officers. They can only get to a crime scene AFTER it's called in!! Most people against having more officers are probably law breakers in the first place!

If you pay them what they are worth you have to give them a big pay cut pay them what they are worth when you need them priceless

Perhaps the mayor and the city council could reduce their pay by 10-15% like the rest of us and that $ be used for the police dept? Just a silly thought.

the problem with police (and most govt workers) is that they believe they are entitled; that they have special rights and are to be excluded from bad economies. this is sad really

I agree with Chris but the reason they won't get another job is if they do they can't break the law and get away with it! They would also have to drive the speed limit if they got another job! Boo Hoo stop whining!

BYE-BYE! If you don't like what you are getting paid then get another job it's that simple. Police are no different than any other working stiff. Very few people get annual raises in this day and age and in case you have not noticed times are tough on all of us. I would also like to point out that the Police generely show up AFTER the crime has been committed. Buy a gun and learn to use it so you can protect you and your family when you are in trouble. Thanks.

We're lucky that anyone even wants to still be a cop these days. It amazes me how people treat them and then those same people complain when 911 doesn't come fast enough.
