The state auditor is questioning how an eastern Kentucky county clerk is handling public money.

State Auditor Crit Luallen says significant problems were found in Magoffin County Clerk H.B. Arnett's office concerning payroll and time sheets last year.

Arnett has been clerk for 25 years but is not seeking re-election.

Arnett told auditors his only full-time deputy employee is his wife, but records show he paid just over 20-thousand dollars to six deputies last New Year's Eve.
