Officials File Lawsuits In Car Warranty Calls

After an estimated one billion phone calls to Americans, federal regulators filed lawsuits Thursday against several companies they say are behind a national wave of "robo-calls."

The phone calls tell people their auto warranties are expiring and offer new service plans.

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway announced the filing of a consumer protection lawsuit against a Nevada telemarketing company for making the deceptive calls to Kentuckians on the "Do Not Call" list.
Attorney generals in several other states are taking similar action.

I'm so glad they're doing something about this... In spite of our being on the "no call list", my children and I have literally received hundreds of these calls over the past several months - which have caused us to go over our "included minutes" several times. I hope these cretins are held accountable for not just the annoyance they've caused but for the financial damage they've caused as well.

We don't have a cell phone, so it didn't occur to me that people were having to pay for these crank calls. Restitution is definitely in order. Then, perhaps whoever thought this one up should have a phone banded to his wrist that can't be turned off and rings several hundred times a day--kind of like water torture. Just a thought.

This garbage has imposed upon MILLIONS of people, often at the most inconvenient times. I think their punishment should be the same as that imposed on people who create and distribute computer viruses, or levy a 100% fine and 10 years in prison, whichever is higher.

I have three cell phones on my plan for me and family members. I can not count the calls that we have received these calls. Sometimes we had voice mails where the robot calls came through and the messages were several minutes long. These calls were during peak time usage. I had entered the numbers on the do not call list more than a year ago. One call came on a child's cell phone, who obviously doesn't even own a car. When I pressed the option to "talk to someone" and attempted to tell them their error and my disgust, they hung up on me. I am glad they (feds) are doing something about this.
