Challenger Jim Newberry Wins Race For Lexington Mayor

Jim Newberry said Lexington needed a change and voters agreed.

Newberry overwhelmingly defeated incumbent Teresa Isaac. It's the first time Lexington's top elected official has been ousted since 1974.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Newberry had 49,726 votes, or 62.6 percent, and Isaac had 29,755 votes, or 37.4 percent.

Just before 7:30pm, Isaac called Newberry and conceeded the race. Minutes later, Isaac gave her concession speech to her crowd of supporters at the Campbell house. Then, it was Newberry addressing his nearly 300 supporters at the Lexington center.
