The cold weather probably got your attention Monday morning, but if it didn't your winter heating bill probably will.

Community Action Agencies offer programs to help with those rising gas bills and one eastern Kentucky woman says the winter months are especially hard to manage.

Officials with the Daniel Boone Community Action Agency say they have many different assistance programs to try to help the people who need it the most.

Billie Cahall says she was having trouble paying her bills so she came to the agency to apply for rental assistance.

"She said I qualified to be in the shelter and I asked what that was and it's a nice 2 bedroom apartment," Cahall said

Cahall and her 2 children have been living in the temporary housing for 2 months.

"But its nice for me and my children to be able to be out on our own. That makes us feel better," Cahall said.

Shirley Bush is the Emergency Services Director and she says she tries to help people like Cahall.

Bush says they offer a heating assistance program to help pay for the rising costs that come with dropping temperatures.

"We can pay utility bills, gas bills, we can buy coal, kerosene, propane, whatever the need is for their heating," Bush said.

Cahall says even her kids are trying to help with money through the holidays.

"No other child ages 12 and 14 would say don't worry about getting me anything for christmas. Pay the bills with it or do what you need to do with it," Cahall said

Billie Cahall is currently working on moving into a home of her own through housing assistance with the Community Action Agency.

Cahall says she hopes to move in to her new home some time before Christmas.
