One eastern Kentucky town is joining a statewide effort in hopes it can revitalize it's downtown community.
Harlan has joined a statewide initiative, which encourages more business in older parts of Kentucky's small towns which have seen business slow down over the years.
Business owners in Harlan hope holiday shoppers will help boost the revitalization.
"Frequent the shops, Christmas shopping, and get to know their downtowns again and by doing that it rejuvenates downtown and revitalizes it."
Harlan business owners are staying open later and offering refreshments to attract those attending the city's tree lighting festivities.
