Workers hauled in truck-loads of dirt Monday to fill in a vacant lot in downtown Lexington where the CentrePointe project is planned.

The lot has set empty since the block was torn down last year to make way for the skyscraper. Developer Dudley Webb says the financing of the 250 million dollar project has been delayed because of the death of a key investor.

Trucks began hauling in dirt to fill in the hole early Monday morning. Crews will then cover the block with grass. The project should be complete within about three weeks. Webb says the fences will remain up even after the grass is put in place, but will likely be taken down if construction does not begin within a few months. Webb even suggested making the open space an entertainment venue.

To those that declare this is a scam. Ever seen any of Lexington's buildings? Ever heard the name of the person that developed d'town Lex? Ever heard of a vice mayor that held the project up to keep it from being partially built now? Ever heard of tree huggers and drunks that didn't want a bunch of nasty old buildings removed? I have. Let me educate you, First, Dudley Webb has made this city with his numerous developments. Second, Jim Gray, fought the project due to his personal problem with Webb. Third, anytime something good is going to be built, a bunch of libeals have to protest. Fourth, club goers and drinkers couldn't accept their mold smelling club was going to relocate. All this held up the project initally, then the biggest investor died while waiting on the four items above to get resolved. First educate yourself before writing nonsense. If the ppl on here leaving commennts got their way, d'town Lex would be a park with grass. Tear down all of Webbs developmnts?

A nice good 4 story casino, 4 floors of parking then a 14 story hotel would bring the people back to downtown Lexington. Me sorry, gambling is not allowed in Kentucky.
