State Police say what started as a domestic dispute ended with a murder.
State Police say they received a call about a domestic dispute in Johnson County Saturday evening. When they arrived at the residence, they say their investigation turned to murder.
State Police say Frank Sowards and his wife Randi were having a domestic dispute when Mrs. Sowards ran next door to the home of Frank's brother, William Sowards. Police say William tried to break up the argument between the couple and ended up in an altercation with his brother. Police say William went inside his home and came back with a gun and shot his unarmed brother in the chest.
Frank Sowards was pronounced dead at the scene and William Sowards is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on one count of murder.
WYMT's Heather Haley spoke with neighbors and family members of the Sowards brothers and no one wanted to go on camera. Their mother did say they are both good men and she doesn't know how this could have happened.
The case is still under investigation by Kentucky State Police in Pikeville.
Officials with the detention center say William will be arraigned Monday morning and the mother of the two men say no funeral arrangements for Frank have been made at this time.
