Standoff Suspect Asks Judge For Addiction Treatment

A Madison County man says he wants to receive inpatient treatment for addiction as he appears in court for threatening to kill his mother.

James Darryl Adams was arrested Saturday after a three hour standoff in Richmond.

Police charged Adams with wanton endangerment and raised his bond from $1,000 to $7,000.

Adams told district court judge Brandy Brown he did not understand the charges against him because he was under the influence of medication at the time of the incident.

Judge Brown responded, "let me describe your charges to you. It indicates you waved a gun at or in the direction of your mother and that created a substantial threat of death or serious physical injury to another."

Judge Brown advised Adams to talk to an attorney about seeking treatment. Adams returns to court on December 20th.
