After four days on the run an eastern Kentucky inmate has been caught.

Police say more time behind bars for Rodney Stamper could mean more money out of your pockets.

WYMT's Julie Maloney explains how Stamper has a history of mutilating himself while in jail in order to check into the hospital.

More time behind bars for 32-year-old Rodney Stamper could cost more of your tax dollars.

"Off and on for the last year and a half to two years, Rodney has had a problem as far as getting admitted to the hospital," Tim Kilburn said.

"Rodney typically will do bodily injury to himself to get admitted to the hospital," Kilburn said.

Last year officials say it cost tens of thousands of dollars to treat Stamper's self-inflicted injuries.

He's already lost his left arm from cutting himself.

This year, his routine isn't changing.

On saturday Stamper was admitted to the Hazard ARH after officials say he continually cut his arm against the wall in his cell.

"Cut himself and had an infection," Officer David Wiseman said.

While Stamper was in a hospital room being monitored by a deputy jailer, he found an opportunity to escape.

"The deputy jailer went into the restroom and Rodney Stamper unplugged his IV and ran out the door," Wiseman said.

Four days after his escape, police found Stamper at his parents home.

"We looked through the house. There was an open door leading to the basement," Wiseman said.

Tuesday afternoon police brought Stamper back to the Hazard ARH to be treated for the cut to his stomach.

Police say more tax money will fund Stamper's medical bill as he will be returning to jail on escape charges.

Jail officials say the deputy jailer that was watching Stamper when he escaped was suspended.

Police say they hope to help Stamper get psychiatric treatment.
