Water Company Is Broken Into For The Second Time In Two Months

For the second time in as many months, an eastern Kentucky water company is broken into.

You might be surprised what happened after the alleged thieves got inside.

When Floyd County Southern Water and Sewer employees came to work they found their desk drawers open and messed up.

"There was nothing that was taken from the office. The only significant damage was the front door was damaged," Bob Myer said.

Surveillance video shows just what happened. Someone shattered the glass door and came in.

"In the office for approximately one minute. Apparently were scared off by a vehicle coming down the road and exited at that point," Myer said.

He believes the person was looking for money because this isn't the first time this happened.

He says several months ago, someone broke in and took several thousand dollars, checks, and equipment.

He says after that, they made changes so no one could steal again.

"All of those deposits are made in the evening so we don't have any cash in the office," Myer said.

Customers paying their bill didn't like the idea of someone stealing their payments.

"People out here working and making hard earned money," Hank Williams said.

Some customers say they haven't always had water service, so they're upset someone would put that in jeopardy.

"They're out there everyday providing ways for us to have water and drink and then people trying to take their money. It's just not right," Williams said.

Water district managers say insurance will handle the thefts and damage, and customers shouldn't be directly affected.

If you have any information on the break-ins, please call your local police department.
