A fatal accident happened on highway 15 on Tuesday evening, closing the road for about three hours.

Police say one person died and several others were sent to the hospital after police say a mini-van crossed the median, and hit three vehicles.

"A blue mini-van was driving south when it crossed the center line and struck a Dodge Neon driving north. The vehicle then travelled further south in the northbound lane striking a Jeep Liberty head-on. At this point there's an
S-10 blazer travelling behind the van and in an attempt to dodge the impact, it clipped the blue mini-van," Trooper Loren Holliday said.

Troopers say at least four people were taken to the hospital, including the one person who later died.

The blue mini-van was almost completely destroyed and glass was scattered for yards along the road.

Police worked to reconstruct the scene, trying to find out how this happened.

The road re-opened about 9:00pm Tuesday night and state police haven't released the names of those involved in the accident.
