Johnson Woman Charged With Illegal Prescription Scheme

PAINTSVILLE – A tip from a Paintsville doctor has resulted in the arrest of a Johnson County woman for fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs.

On Thursday, January 18, detectives from Operation UNITE arrested 32-year-old Kimberly K. Walters, Hurricane Branch, Boons Creek, on three counts of unauthorized procurement of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a forged prescription for a Legend drug.

Walters was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

On Monday, January 22, Walters was arrested on 16 additional charges handed down by the Johnson County Grand Jury – 15 counts of attempting or obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or false statement and one count of forgery of a prescription.

UNITE’s drug diversion unit was notified by a doctor on December 18, 2006, that Walters, a patient, had used a forged prescription at a local pharmacy.

During the month-long investigation it was determined that Walters had apparently forged prescriptions at many pharmacies in Johnson, Martin and Floyd counties. Cooperation from these pharmacies and several doctors resulted in the arrest.

The investigation is on-going with additional charges pending Grand Jury action in Martin and Floyd counties.
