HAZARD – A Perry County man has been arrested by Operation UNITE on a charge of selling Methadone.
Elmer D. Combs, 59, of Gregory Branch Road, was arrested Monday, January 22, for one count first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
Following complaints called in to Operation UNITE, detectives conducted an investigation that led to the purchase of one and a quarter methadone wafers from Combs on Friday, January 12, said Mike Luttrell, manager of UNITE’s Kentucky River Drug Task Force.
Based upon that transaction, detectives obtained a search warrant for Combs’ home, located off KY 451 in the Christopher community of Perry County. Seven UNITE detectives and an officer from the Hazard Police Department served the warrant about 4 p.m. Monday.
During the search police found a plastic baggie containing four whole and four partial methadone tables, one Xanax and two partial Xanax tablets, and $450 in cash. In addition, they also found a loaded .40-caliber handgun.
Combs was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
Perry County Schools Officials tell us Combs did work for the district as a teacher and bus driver. But he has not worked for the school system at all in more than a year.
