It looks like the Big Sandy area could get hit the hardest.

Before the first snowflake hit, road crews were already loading up salt trucks and snow plows.

"Checking all of our supplies, going over all of our equipment, making sure everything is in good working order," Darold Slone said.

They weren't the only ones stocking up.

"I had to get a few things. The snow's coming and I won't have to get out in it," Rosalee Stump said.

People flocked to the grocery stores to buy the essentials and to be prepared in case they're snowed in.

Crews are working around the clock to clear the roads.

"Over 16,000 tons of salt on hand, that should be plenty for this event and we won't quit working until the roads are clear and the storm is over," Slone said.

Some are glad snow is here.

"No school and building a snowman and having a snowball fight with my poppy," Matthew Kilgore said.

But no matter what you do, crews warn everyone to stay safe.

"The best advice is don't be out unless you have to," Slone said.

Officials advise if you have to get out and drive somewhere, make sure you have on warm clothing and a blanket in the car just in case, and have plenty of gas and windshield wiper fluid, and please drive slowly.
